Silicciclastics vs Carbonates

  1. Porosity decreases with depth in siliciclastic and also in carbonate reservoirs
  2. Carbonates generally have lower porosity at given depth
  3. Up to 20% porosity, both have the same permeability. But higher than 20% porosity, siliciclastics have more permeability
  4. Higher porosity ( more than 20%) and high permeability (more than 100 mD) more common in siliciclastics
  5. High permeability (more than 100 mD) in low porosity rocks ( less than 8 %) is much more common in carbonates
