Permeability

Permeability is the ability of rock to transmit the fluid. It is required for production of hydrocarbon. The unit of measurement of permeability is often in millidarcies (mD). The permeability divided by viscosity of the fluid will give us mobility, this is measured by formation tester tools. Effective permeability (ke) is a measure of rock to flow one of fluids in pore space. This dependes on absolute permeability, capillary pressure and relative amounts of fluids present. Say, the larger portion the water, the less oil will flow.
From logs, permeability can not be determined. Permeability can only be determined by core samples. Anyway, qualitative permeability can be determined from logs such as SP and separation on resistivity curves. More advanced tools such as RDT and MRIL provide better estimates of permeability.
